Two men are in custody after they allegedly shot at deputies on the city’s far West Side early Thursday morning, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said.

Two men are in custody after they fired multiple gunshots at deputies on the city’s far West Side early Thursday morning, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called just before 3 a.m. to Baffin Peak near Twinbear Creek, not far from Highway 90 and Loop 1604 after receiving word of suspicious activity.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, as soon as a deputy stepped out of his car, one of the suspects fired at least seven shots at him, hitting his patrol unit.

The sheriff said it appeared the suspect was trying to kill the deputy and only stopped firing because he eventually ran out of ammunition. The deputy was not hit in the gunfire.

The two suspects tried to run away, but deputies chased after the men. A second suspect began firing, hitting a civilian’s parked car, Salazar said. A perimeter was created around the area and a police helicopter was called in to assist in the search.

Salazar said the two suspects eventually broke into a nearby shed and then into a house. The homeowner fought off one of the men, leaving one of them bloodied before deputies caught both suspects, Salazar said.

Two guns were found in the men’s possession. Salazar said the suspects are refusing to cooperate and won’t give their names, forcing investigators to run fingerprint IDs on them.

Charges include attempted capital murder and burglary, the sheriff said.
