He was immediately rushed to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center but pronounced dead on arrival, multiple outlets reports.
A 20-year-old female who was in a Hyundai Sonata was reportedly issued unspecified citations. According to police, the crash still remains under investigation.
Clark most recently caught up with his co-star Jack Black in 2018 for a School of Rock reunion. Black famously starred as Dewey Finn, aka Mr. S in the film.
The pair posed for a photo together at a Tenacious D concert in Chicago.

The 2003 film was Clark's only film credit. The child star started playing the drums from the age of three.
Two decades after the film's release, the film is still a fan favourite, and led to a short-lived television series and a stage musical.
Clark continued to pursue his musical dream following the film, working on his career as a professional drummer rather than an actor.
He spent his time playing in several bands. His most recent project, Jess Bess and the Intentions, had its first live show last Saturday.
"He's just a raw talent. He's got a heart of gold," Clark's mother Allison Clark told the Chicago Sun-Times today, noting his performance in School of Rock saying, "he just kind of shined. He took it on right away, but he never really acted afterwards."
