Prison Break actor Wentworth Miller won't return for the sixth season of the show.

Miller, 48, famously starred as Michael Schofield in the hit drama, which follows the character as he deliberately sends himself to prison to break out his older brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell).

On November 9, the actor — who is gay — told fans he has no intention of continuing to play straight characters.

"I'm out. Of PB. Officially," he wrote. "Not bec of static on social media (although that has centred the issue). I just don't want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told).

Actor Wentworth Miller attends the "Prison Break" screening and conversation at The Paley Center for Media on March 29, 2017 in Beverly Hills, California.

"So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons... I understand this is disappointing. I'm sorry. If you're hot and bothered bec you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay one...That's your work."

The actor, who came out in 2013, also touched on his frustrations with the comments he'd received on the social media platform. He admitted he didn't plan on deleting his account but spoke out in defence of other queer individuals.

Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell reprised their roles as Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows in a Prison Break revival.

"I won't be disappearing (too many cool things to repost). The ability to comment likely will," he added. "I'm not concerned for myself. I can't be 'bullied' in this space. I have too much power. 'Delete. Block. Deactivate.' Etc. But I take seriously the possibility of queer kids visiting here, recently out of the closet or exploring the idea... I don't want them exposed to bulls---."
