Jennifer Garner shared an emotional post, after visiting an Afghan refugee centre in Washington, DC.

The Juno star visited the space which serves as a first stop for thousands of people recently fleeing from Afghanistan amid the resurgence of the Taliban, as per charity Save the Children.

The private space provides families with infants essential care and materials, as well as backpacks for children offering comfort items, including stuffed animals and toys.

Garner, who is an ambassador for Save the Children, shared a touching moment from her visit to the centre.

The 13 Going on 30 actress captured the moment she plays with some of the children, pulling out pipe cleaners to create crafts.

After being warned she "might get mobbed" by excited children, Garner replies, "Great! I want to get mobbed."

The Instagram video also showed Garner learning firsthand about the care and services being provided to Afghan families in need.

"This is a human endeavor," Garner wrote alongside her post. "I am so grateful Save the Children is helping the US Dept of State welcome Afghan refugees, and hope you can help me support these families and this work."

"These children and families have been through so much — many of the families I spoke with have been in transit for weeks, and are understandably exhausted," Garner added.

"I see Save the Children's services provide such a sense of relief for the parents, and a sense of joy for the kids."

"Afghan children have known nothing but conflict their entire lives," Garner added.

"I got to see their beautiful art, sing songs and receive some really big hugs."

The actress celebrated the "healing" that occurs for children in nurturing environments.

"This may be the first time these children have felt safe in months, and the activity space gives them the chance to have fun and just be kids — after all they've been through, they desperately need that."

Garner shared the post in the same week her ex-husband Ben Affleck made his red carpet debut at the Venice Film Festival beside ex-fiancee Jennifer Lopez.
