On Feb. 21, ahead of the 2021 Golden Globes, the Los Angeles Times released a two-part exposé revealing that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association "had no Black members and stands accused of ethical lapses." In response, the HFPA released a statement on Feb. 26 saying, "We understand that we need to bring in Black members, as well as members from other underrepresented backgrounds, and we will immediately work to implement an action plan to achieve these goals as soon as possible." Time's Up followed their comment by tweeting Friday, "A cosmetic fix isn't enough. #TIMESUPGlobes #TIMESUP," along with a photo that called out that there is "not a single Black member out of 87." They also took out a full-page ad in the Los Angeles Times on Sunday to point out the organization's lack of diversity.

Celebrities were quick to follow the lead of Time's Up, posting their thoughts and feelings of solidarity on Instagram and Twitter. "To be clear, pressure applied to the Globes and its partners from now on isn't about validation or shiny things from this particular group," tweeted director Ava DuVernay. "Flagrant and unacceptable. It's a wrap on all of this," added Natasha Lyonne. The HFPA also addressed the controversy during the ceremony, with Twitter immediately dragging them for a perceived lack of sincerity. Ahead you can see how Sterling K. Brown, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, and more reacted to the #TimesUpGlobes movement.
