Roommates, following the overwhelming success of its current second season, HBO has officially announced that the incredibly popular teen drama ‘Euphoria’ has been renewed for a third season. Aside from being an online sensation, the viewership for the current season has been massive.

Variety reports, season two has doubled with every episode so far this season in comparison to season one. Season two’s premiere episode on January 9th racked up 13.1 million total viewers on both HBO and HBO Max. That translates to almost a 100% increase in viewers, going from a 6.6 million average audience during season one back in summer 2019. Additionally, the ‘Euphoria’ season two premiere was the No. 1 most social premium cable episode since the ‘Game of Thrones’ finale in May 2019, Variety revealed.

Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi, spoke briefly regarding the series’ renewal. “Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of ‘Euphoria’ have taken Season 2 to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart. We couldn’t be more honored to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into Season 3,” she said.

As we previously reported, late last month ‘Euphoria’ was the source of extremely harsh criticism from anti-drug organization D.A.R.E, after it accused the series of “glamorizing” drug addiction and drug use among teenagers.

The criticism was in response to multiple characters on the show involved in regular, extensive and (at times) life-altering drug use. Meanwhile, the second season finale of ‘Euphoria’ airs on February 27th.
