Halsey has added her name to the list of celebrities who have taken issue with the 2021 Grammys nominations.
After the nominations were announced earlier this week, there was huge backlash because of the exclusion of The Weeknd's 2020 album, After Hours.
The artist himself called out the Grammys for being "corrupt", and fellow singer Drake came to his defence, adding that the awards show "may no longer matter".
And now pop singer Halsey has made a statement about the Grammys, referencing The Weeknd's snub and also the fact that her album Manic also missed out on any nods.
Posting to her Instagram story, the 'Hurricane' singer wrote that she'd been originally hesitant to speak out against the Grammys.
She opened up about the Grammy nomination process, saying that it's about a lot more than just making music.
"The Grammys are an elusive process," she shared. "It can often be about private, behind the scenes performances, knowing the right people, campaigning through the grapevine, with the right handshakes and 'bribes' that can be just ambiguous enough to pass as 'not-bribes'."
She also added that artists must commit to performing at the Grammys ceremony in order to secure a nomination, to "help the Academy make their millions in advertising," she said.
Halsey added that it's not always about the music, saying that The Weeknd deserved better "and Manic did too".
"Perhaps its unbecoming of me to say so but I can't care anymore. While I am THRILLED for my talented friends who were recognised this year, I am hoping for more transparency or reform."
She ended her post by saying that she expects to be blacklisted from future ceremonies for sharing this message.
Recording Academy chief Harvey Mason, Jr. has responded to The Weeknd's claims that The Grammys are corrupt, telling Variety: "Unfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists.
"We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated," he continues. "I was surprised and can empathise with what he's feeling. His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone's admiration."
"But as the only peer-voted music award, we will continue to recognise and celebrate excellence in music while shining a light on the many amazing artists that make up our global community."
