We all know celebrities do a lot of bizarre things to stay youthful and 'beautiful' –– there was Kim K's vampire facial, Gwyneth Paltrow's vagina steaming and Cate Blanchett's foreskin face serum.
Eva Mendes has jumped on the bandwagon this week, sharing a photo to Instagram that has left people baffled. The picture shows her mid-beauty treatment, with seven sharp syringes poking out of her chin.
There's no denying it looks incredibly uncomfortable.
The actress explained the treatment as something called 'Mono-Threads', and took the chance to celebrate her Latina beauty technician who opened her own business.
"Here I am getting some Mono-Threads," she captioned her photo. "Ayyyy Dios! I'll update you with results if you care."
"This spa-home away from home is incredible! No office with bad fluorescent lighting. No sterile office vibe. This is my go to for all things beauty. A home where you can relax while being tortured by the best of the best. This is my happy place!"
"So excited to support her as a skilled beauty technician opening her own Latina owned business!"
One commenter asked, "Does it hurt?" and she responded: "Not really – surprisingly enough! And my threshold for pain is low! It looks more invasive than it is."
The actress added that she "honestly had no idea I had that many in. Then when she told me how many I didn't believe her so I asked her to take a pic. This pic was not planned. I do not like physical pain! I do not like needles! This was a big one for me!"
Her beautician, Dr Mariana Vergara, reposted Mendes' picture and explained a bit more about mono-threading.
"Mono threads activate collagen synthesis, which produces a gradual skin thickening, skin tightening and rejuvenation effect," Vergara wrote. "Acupuncture is used mainly to relieve discomfort associated with a variety of diseases and conditions. The threads shown are mono threads, which stimulate collagen."
Well, there you have it!
