Elliot Page has filed for divorce from wife Emma Portner two months after Page announced he is transgender.
"After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer," Page, 33, and Portner, 26, said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. "We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends."
The news comes after Page revealed he was transgender in December.
The actor, formerly known as Ellen Page, penned a long letter to fans on Twitter announcing the transition.
"I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life," Page wrote. "I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can't begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self."
At the time, Portner shared her support for Page for speaking his truth. The couple would have already separated when the Oscar-nominated actor came out.
"I am so proud of @elliotpage," she wrote on Instagram following the announcement. "Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot's existence is a gift in and of itself."
Page and Portner remained private about their relationship, which reportedly started back in 2017. They then made their union official when they secretly got married in January 2018.
