"I think that in a few albums time we will finish making albums," he told host Andy Bush.

"This is not a joke, this is true, I think after 12 that will be the end of our catalogue, but I think we will always want to play live together."

Martin added the band would do something similar to what the Rolling Stones do. "It will be so cool if we can still be touring in our late '70s," he said. "That will be wonderful, if anybody wants to come."

Coldplay have eight studio albums. Their ninth, titled Music of the Spheres, is set to be released this Friday, October 15.

"It is a bit grander in its sound," Martin told AP. "The songs come first, but the picture frame of the title of Music of the Spheres sort of easily said which songs might fit within it. But you're always at the mercy of what songs decide to show up."

Martin gave a writing credit on the song 'Let Somebody Go (ft. Selena Gomez)' from daughter Apple Martin, who also supplies the intro to 'Higher Power'. Son Moses Martin is credited with chorus vocals on 'Humankind.'

"Apple gave me this amazing chord that I'd never thought of. So she's on there," Martin said.

"I often ask [Moses] to just come and make choruses sound better."

Along with their studio albums, the band's entire discography includes six live albums, six compilation albums, four video albums, 15 extended plays, 37 singles, 14 promotional singles, three charity singles and 62 music videos.

They have sold over 100 million albums worldwide, making them one of the most successful rock groups of the 21st century.
