Britney Spears' fans hoped the pop star got engaged to her boyfriend, after he posted — and quickly deleted — an image of a ring.
Turns out, things were not as they seem, and the 'Toxic' singer's boyfriend Sam Asghari simply made a mistake.
Asghari raised eyebrows after sharing an image of a ring on his Instagram stories, with an inscription reading "Lioness" on the silver band.

The ring also featured a large diamond nestled in the centre.
The Instagram story was swiftly deleted, but not before Britney Spears' fan Twitter account screenshotted the image.
"SAM GOT BRITNEY A RING WITH THE WORD LIONESS ON IT IN A NOW DELETED POST," the page tweeted, sending fans into a spin.
Asghari cleared up the rumours, writing in a follow-up post, "account got hacked and was photoshopped — calm down everyone!"
The couple has been dating for the past four years, and the pair have reportedly discussed "marriage" before.

In the 'Circus' singer's bombshell court hearing earlier this year, she claimed she would like to get married and have more children but said her conservatorship was blocking her.
"I was told right now in the conservatorship, I'm not able to get married or have a baby, I have an (IUD) inside of myself right now so I don't get pregnant," Spears said during a virtual address.
"I wanted to take the (IUD) out so I could start trying to have another baby. But this so-called team won't let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don't want me to have children — any more children."

Spears' personal conservator and father denied there were any restrictions preventing her from getting married or having a child.
"Britney's choice to marry and to start a family [has] never been impacted by the conservatorship while Ms. Montgomery has been a conservator of the person," Montgomery's lawyer Lauriann Wright told multiple outlets in a statement.
"I can state unequivocally that Jodi Montgomery has been a tireless advocate for Britney and for her well-being. While she does not control Britney's financial assets, she is responsible for her personal care, and if Britney wants any issue brought up to the Court, Ms. Montgomery is and has always been ready, willing, and able to do so."
Asghari has responded to engagement rumours in July, joking to TMZ "people don't know, but we've been married for about five years."
"You know, we secretly got married in Hawaii. And we have twins."

This week in an unexpected turn, Jamies Spears filed a petition to end the arrangement of acting as her conservator of her estate.
In a court filing obtained by CNN on Wednesday, the elder Spears cited his daughter's pleas at two separate court hearings over the summer in his request to terminate the 13-year conservatorship.
