Actress Bianca Wallace, the Australian girlfriend of Welsh star Ioan Gruffudd, has spoken candidly about her ongoing struggle with multiple sclerosis (MS).

The 29-year-old shared an update on her diagnosis while at a fundraiser for the disease with Gruffudd, 48, and admitted she once "lived in fear" of telling people about it.

"Like so many others I lived in fear of what would happen if people found out. I could have never predicted the overwhelming response that came with my post," Wallace said at the SMS Battles Quiz for the MS Society, according to journalists at the event.

"Hearing how much I have already helped so many others on their own journey is why I will do whatever I can to support this cause"

She added: "You never truly know how much you can help change lives until you do."

Wallace, who was diagnosed with MS three years ago, said she "wasn't sure" when she'd find the courage to open up about her diagnosis.

The actress shared insight into how she was coping earlier this year via an Instagram post about a relapse which left her unable to use her legs.

"I got my first walking stick in May 2020 at my neurologist's suggestion of wanting to preserve the damage and help during times of balance loss, flares and relapses," she wrote.

"I struggle with balance and a tremor often and can lose my motor skills where my foot turns inwards and can also drag and drop. This ranges from a slight stumble at times (common), to total foot drag / drop.

"Recently, due to the activity in my brain, I had my first lesion growth (attack) in 2 years and 5 months and this created two new symptoms in my right leg: A pain in my heel that feels like a giant pin is up there and also widespread numbness."

Wallace said news of her MS diagnosis went "heartbreakingly public" before she was ready to talk about it, however says she now proudly shares updates on her health to help others people.

"I realised that my health was outed because it was time for me to help show people a way of finding a little bit of light in some very dark situations," Wallace wrote.

Wallace has been dating Titanic actor Gruffudd since the actor's highly-publicised split from ex-wife Alice Evans.

The couple confirmed their romance in October 2021 after going "Instagram official".

Gruffudd and Evans were married for 14 years before he filed for divorce in March 2021. The actor filed a restraining order against his estranged wife in February this year.

Evans has also applied for legal and physical custody of the couple's children: Ella, 12, and Elsie, eight.
