Birdlife Photography Awards 2019


The 2019 Birdlife Australia Photography Awards have announced their winners. The above image – Life, fragmented – by Matt Wright won the Human Impact category. All categories feature original images of Australian and visiting birds.

Other category winners were:

Bird Portrait – Southern Cassowary by Jun Mutsui

Birds in Landscape – Eastern Spinebill by John Eley

Bird Behaviour – A Butterfly Snatch by Greg Norman

Creative – Lines of Flight by Cathryn Vasseleu

Special Category: Honeyeaters – Little Wattle Bird Plucking Ant Alates from the Air by Terry Walker (TAS)

Youth – Superb Fairy-Wren Singing by Martin Longford

Portfolio – Ofer Levy

Please see all the galleries here for absolutely stunning images of the winning and short-listed entries. The ‘Human Impact’ category certainly offers food for though with images of birds affected by drought, pollution, garbage, traffic, the built environment and so on.

Next year’s awards will be open for submissions in mid-2020. If you love birds and photography, you could be a winner!
