All restrictions, including those on cleaning products and cooking items, have been lifted as shopping returns to normal following months of panic buying and high demand.

"This is a big milestone and a positive sign following months of hard work from our teams and significant support from our suppliers to ensure the replenishment of our shelves during a period of extraordinary demand." Woolworths Supermarkets Managing Director, Claire Peters said.

Woolworths introduced purchase restrictions in March at the height of demand for groceries to ensure as many customers as possible could access what they need.

Restrictions on purchase quantities have been gradually lifted over the last month however the remaining restrictions on antibacterial wipes, hand wash and frozen fruit have now been lifted.

The announcement from the supermarket giant comes as more coronavirus restrictions are eased across the country in light of low community transmission numbers in previous weeks.

Woolworths' dedicated Community Hour shopping times are still in place for seniors and with a disability as well as NSW Emergency Services and healthcare workers.

Coles recently announced the lifting of restrictions on in-demand items, with all buying limits being removed as of May 29.
