Women’s Art Prize Tasmania is delighted to announce the winners of the inaugural 2021 prizes.
Women’s Art Prize Tasmania has announced the winners of the inaugural 2021 prizes.
Winning the Trawalla Foundation $15,000 Acquisitive prize is Georgia Spain for her work Six Different Women, 2021.
The Judging Panel were unanimous in their choice, saying:
“These are strong, solid women with an intensity of purpose. The visceral energy in the brushwork and powerful suggested narrative captivated the panel.”
Winning the Zonta International Area 5 Emerging $1500 Artist prize is Georgia Morgan for her work The dream is real, 2020.
Again the Judging Panel were in full agreement about this work saying; “There is a wonderful interplay with authenticity and construction that is anchored by the artist’s gaze. Through the work, the artist invites a conversation about migration, identity and constructing memory. The artist has chosen to tell her own story, her own way.”
Voting is currently open for the 2021 Bell Bay Aluminium $3000 People’s Choice Award. People are invited to visit the Women’s Art Prize Tasmania website and select the work they like the most from this year’s finalists.
The Women’s Art Prize Tasmania promotes awareness of culture, visual arts, women and gender issues across Tasmania.
The exhibition runs until 25 July 2021 at the Makers’ Space Gallery, Burnie and then moves to The Barn at Rosny Park (Hobart) from 8 to 31 October 2021.
