Moist easterly winds along the NSW coast are causing cloud cover to increase.

The autumnal weather follows Adelaide and Sydney recording their coldest morning this early in a year in 27 years yesterday dipping down to 9.4C and 12.2C respectively.

Melbourne also had its coldest morning of the year so far with warmer conditions forecast today and temperatures increasing as the week goes on.

Showers will start moving over the Sydney Basin around late morning and early afternoon today, with 5-10mm possible in some areas.

The rain marks the start of a prolonged run of wet weather extending into next week. By the end of the coming weekend, accumulated falls exceeding 60mm are likely across much of the basin.

Meanwhile a high pressure system is keeping elsewhere mostly dry & clear, whilst directing a warm air mass over southern WA.

Perth is forecast to exceed 30C each day until at least next Monday with a maximum of 34C today before temperatures peak on Friday.
