A 21-year-old woman is believed to be the youngest person in the United Kingdom to die of the coronavirus without having any pre-existing health issues.

According a post on Facebook by her mother, Chloe Middleton from High Wycombe, 42km west of London, died several days ago.

"To all the people out there that thinks it's just a virus please think again," Diane Middleton wrote.

"Speaking from a personal experience this so called virus has taken the life of my 21-year-old daughter."

Ms Middleton's aunt, Emily Mistry, said on social media that the family was "going through the most unimaginable pain" and was "shattered beyond belief".

In a tribute to her niece on Facebook, she urged people to take the pandemic seriously.

"My beautiful, kind hearted 21-year-old niece (Chloe) has passed away from COVID-19," Ms Mistry wrote.

"She had no underlying health issues…

"Please, please adhere to government guidelines. Do your bit. Protect yourselves and protect others. The virus isn't spreading, people are spreading the virus."

"Life as we know it has changed dramatically but unless we all act now to protect ourselves and others, the longer this turmoil and anguish will go on."

The UK has had more than 8,000 confirmed cases and more than 400 deaths as a result of COVID-19.
