Here’s the weather across Australia on Thursday October 1, 2020, including storms in several states and a gale warning in Tasmania.
Potentially severe thunderstorms could hit Brisbane and other areas of southeast Queensland today, as metro parts of NSW woke to heavy downpour this morning.
A storm warning for Brisbane comes following one of the city's driest Septembers in 20 years.
But while these storms could produce damaging winds and large hail, heavy rain may not be a major factor owing to the relatively low availability of moisture in the atmosphere.
Unfortunately, Brisbane and other parched areas of southeast Queensland may have to wait a bit longer for a decent bout of spring rain.
A trough is causing thunderstorms in over northeastern WA, western NT, southern Queensland and eastern NSW with showers in Victoria and Tasmania.
A front is bringing showers to SA.
Onshore winds are bringing a few light showers to southwestern WA and Queensland coasts.
