A 16-year-old passenger has died after a 4WD driven by a 14-year-old boy rolled on a dirt road in country Queensland.

A 16-year-old passenger has died after a 4WD driven by a 14-year-old boy rolled on a dirt road in country Queensland.

The 4WD was travelling on a dirt section of Wills Road outside Emerald about 6pm, Queensland Police said.

The car rolled several times when the driver lost control, early indications suggest.

A 16-year-old boy in a passenger seat died at the scene, despite emergency services desperately trying to revive him.

The driver and two other passengers, all aged 16, were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Officers from Queensland Police's Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.
