Police are hunting a man who allegedly used a fishing rod to steal jewellery from a high-end fashion store in Melbourne’s CBD.

Police are hunting a man who allegedly used a fishing rod to steal jewellery from a high-end fashion store in Melbourne's CBD.

CCTV footage shows the suspect holding the rod to remove a Versace necklace from a mannequin within the store just after 2am on Monday, February 24.

Police believe it took the man three hours to steal the necklace from the Little Collins Street store.

Officers have released images and CCTV footage of a man who they believe can help with inquiries.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 180 cm tall, with short, fair receding hair, aged between 40 and 50.

The suspect was wearing a blue Lonsdale windcheater with grey tracksuit pants and carrying a fishing rod.
