A group of school boys in the Sunshine Coast got an unpleasant surprise when they discovered a huge carpet python hanging on the door of a bathroom cubicle.

In a Facebook post by Sunshine Coast Snake Catcher 24/7, Stuart McKenzie shares a picture of the 1.8 metre python coiled over the top of the door.

"(The boys) didn't really appreciate being watched while using the toilet so he had to be relocated," Mr McKenzie said in the post.

He said it's not uncommon to find snakes in bathrooms as they are a cool place for them to hide during the hot summer months.

"At this time of year they'll often go inside … basically anywhere they can get some shade," Mr McKenzie told Nine.com.au.

Although they may look intimidating, carpet pythons are far less dangerous than other species of snakes.

Despite their size, carpet pythons are not particularly dangerous however they do bite.

"They're not dangerous, they'll give you a good bite though," he said.

Carpet python's can grow up to three metres long.

Mr McKenzie said he's been taking more than 10 calls per day with people requesting to have snakes relocated.

"It's our busiest time of year, just today I've have six calls and it's not even 11(am)," he said.
