A teenager has filmed the heart stopping moment a shark chased her brother and herself through waters on the NSW South Coast.

Taia Hanley, 16, was out spearfishing with her brother at Bulli Point, about 70 kilometres south of Sydney on Sunday.

Taia and her brother Baxter, 13, were spearfishing off the Bulli rock pools when the encounter took place.

In video captured by Taia, both her and her brother's flippers can be seen paddling frantically as a shark swims towards them.

The teens managed to get away from the shark, which is believed to be close to shore due to large schools of baitfish in the area, according to Illawarra Surf Life Saving,  who shared the close encounter on its Facebook page.

This is the third shark encounter on the South Coast within 12 hours, with beaches at Austinmer and Thirroul being closed yesterday.
