The 34-year-old Sunshine Coast man who was killed by a shark while spearfishing off Indian Heads on Fraser Island has been remembered as a genuine, caring and loving man.

Friends and family gathered at a church in Buderium for the funeral service, where memories of spear fisherman Matthew Tratt were shared.

Matthew Tratt's wife Kayla recalled the early days of their relationship, and shared memories of Matt with his children Sienna and Taj.

"We will miss the comfort he would bring to us," she said.

The Tratt family were on a holidays on Fraser Island earlier this month when Matt died from a shark bite to his leg.

Matthew Tratt, pictured with his wife Kayla, was mauled to death by a shark.

His wife spoke of his passion for the ocean.

"Matts love for the ocean … was his true passion," she said.

"He was always one to live life to the fullest … his only fears were growing old, growing fat and lazy … and that never happened."
