Authorities are searching for a fisherman who fell from a trawler in rough weather off Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

Water police got a call for help about 3am today, saying the worker had fallen overboard, off Point Arkwright.

Crew members from the trawler spotted the man in the water but he vanished soon afterwards.

Water police and a helicopter have been searching the area, where conditions are challenging.

Police are continuing to search for the fisherman missing off Point Arkwright.

Mike Middleton from Mooloolaba Coastguard has told the ABC it's easy to see how such incidents happen.

"Fishermen often lean over to connect nets and things and the seas are quite rough at the moment at two metres and we've got 15-25 knots coming up," he said.

Meanwhile, a separate search has located a body in the water off Mooloolaba.

At 8am, police were advised a 12m yacht had run aground at Mooloolaba Beach

Police said initial inquires indicated a person may have fallen from the boat.

It is believed the found body is linked to the missing yacht.
