The search is on for Townsville’s latest Powerball winner who scored a division one prize of over $8 million in last night’s draw, but they just don’t know it yet!
A lucky Townsville resident currently has no idea that they're now a multi-millionaire.
The mystery Queensland player held the only division one entry in Powerball draw 1251 last night and scored $8.9 million.
The Lott officials have no way of contacting the winner as the ticket was unregistered, so have to wait for them to come forward and claim their prize.
"Make sure you check your wallet, handbag, fridge door, or anywhere else you may have stored your tickets," the Lott spokesperson Ally Ramsamy said.
"Previous winners have found valuable tickets in all sorts of places."
The winning ticket was purchased from newsXpress Garbutt Central.
Owners Ken and Lyn Ivers said they couldn't be more thrilled to have made one of their customers an overnight multi-millionaire.
"What wonderful news for the customer and for the region," Mrs Ivers said.
"It's just fabulous. I can only imagine how excited they will be when they find out."
This isn't the first time the couple have sold winning tickets from their store.
"In 2018, we sold a $15 million Oz Lotto entry and in 2015 we sold a Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto entry worth $1 million," Mr Ivers said
"We feel like we are on a roll. We are a bit of a lucky store.
"Hopefully, this winning streak continues."
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1251 on Thursday 7 May 2020 were 12, 9, 16, 23, 26, 35 and 29 and the all-important Powerball number was 10.
Powerball players are encouraged to register their tickets so that they can be contacted directly if they win a major prize.
