TaFA Election update

An update on our representation to the parties ahead of the election.

We have discussed our requests with the Liberal Party and while they have not updated their policy, they have indicated they’re willing to keep working with TaFA on our goals if they are re-elected.

The ALP’s screen policy is not much different to the Liberals’ policy, although just in the last few days they have committed $205,000 for capital works and equipment for Wide Angle Tasmania.

The Green’s policy includes $250,000 a year for WAT.

Details of the three parties policies are here:

We sent our statement to Sue Hickey and Kristie Johnston as well. Sue said she would be interested to talk after the election, no response from Kristie as yet.

Feel free to email your candidates and let them know what you like or dislike about their policies!

Disappointingly, there hasn’t been much debate around arts and screen during this campaign (although ArtsHub published an op ed from Elise Archer on Tuesday and a piece with quotes from the ALP and Greens late today).

This problem was exacerbated by the short timeframe and the shrinking media landscape in the state. We’re interested in ways to get this happening more, regardless of who wins, and will give it consideration as we consider how to best influence Screen Tasmania’s new strategic plan later this year.
