The Utair-run Boeing 737 was travelling from Moscow when a strong wind shear caused the aircraft to suddenly change direction.

A plane carrying 94 people made an emergency landing in Russia after being hit by a wind shear.

The plane made a hard landing at the Usinsk airport in the Komi Republic, more than 1600km from the Russian capital. The plane crashed tail first onto the tarmac damaging its landing gear.

Images published online showed the aircraft sitting on its belly on the snow-covered tarmac as passengers scrambled to evacuate.

Crew managed to bring the plane to a halt and none of the 94 passengers or six crew members were badly injured, the airline said.

One passenger sought medical assistance.
