Fugitive Ricardo Barbaro is expected to arrive Melbourne tonight, 24 hours after he was arrested by Sydney detectives following a week-long manhunt.
He is wanted by homicide detectives in Victoria over the death of his estranged partner Ellie Price, who was found in her South Melbourne apartment on May 4.
It's believed Ms Price, a 26-year-old mother, was assaulted and that her body was left in her home for up to five days before it was discovered.
Victorian detectives arrived in Sydney yesterday to collect Mr Barbaro under an extradition order.
The 33-year-old was arrested in the early hours of the morning, found hiding in the penthouse of an apartment block in Wentworth Point.
He was charged with an interstate warrant for murder and was refused bail at Parramatta Local Court.
He is due to be interviewed by police in Victoria when he arrives there tonight.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, the 10-hour journey will be via car and not plane.
Mr Barbaro is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Detectives last week launched a public appeal to find the fugitive and urged him to hand himself in.
Ms Price's Mercedes was found at Diggers Point in Melbourne's outer northwest last week, about 40 kilometres from her South Melbourne home.
Victoria Police had been looking for Mr Barbaro with help from other law enforcement agencies.
Detectives are not searching for anyone else in the murder investigation.
