Regional airline Rex will enter the domestic capital cities market next year, rivalling carriers Qantas and Virgin in one of the biggest shake-ups in Australian aviation history.
The airline will commence flights between Sydney and Melbourne on March 1, with more than 100,000 tickets on sale from today, starting from just $79.
Brisbane will be added to its domestic network in the first half of 2021, with plans for other capital cities to follow thereafter.

Deputy chairman John Sharp told Today the airline had grasped the opportunity to expand into the capital cities market, despite the industry being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"It has been a tough year for air travel," Mr Sharp said.
"It's been unprecedented, but out of adversity comes opportunity, and this is what Rex has seen in the current COVID pandemic environment.
"We see the opportunity to extend our regional air services - where we've flown between the regions and the capital cities - to flying between the capital cities.
"We see this as a great opportunity to do more for consumers, for passengers around Australia by offering a more competitive service flying between the capital cities."

The airline is set to offer premium, full service flights at a budget airline price, including checked baggage, food, pre-assigned seating and online check-in.
Mr Sharp said Rex had managed to surface from the pandemic without debt, with strong hopes the expansions will "succeed".
The airline has been profitable for the past 15 to 20 years.
"We are going up against the two biggest airlines in the market but we've been around a long time," he said.
"We've been competing against Qantas and Virgin for a long time.
"We know how to run our business. We've been doing it well for a long period of time."
