Public Sector Workers Welcome Family Violence Funding
The union representing Tasmania’s public sector workers has welcomed the Gutwein Government’s commitment for additional funding to family violence and child safety workers.
“Not everyone’s home is a safe place, many listening to the direction to stay home will be incredibly fearful of what the future holds for them,” said Thirza White, Acting Secretary of the Community & Public Sector Union.
“This funding is critical to ensuring we are able to support vulnerable women and children at this stressful time.”
“The suspension of the $420 million efficiency dividend and commitment of additional funds for critically understaffed services are essential steps to ensure public services are in a position to support communities throughout the pandemic, as well as lead the recovery effort on the other side.”
“We’ve seen globally the need for a well-resourced public sector that’s ready and able to deal with the immense challenge facing our communities in the coming weeks and months. We look forward to working with the Gutwein Government as part of a united response to respond to this crisis and get our communities back on their feet.”
