A missing Melbourne teenager has been reunited with her distraught mother, after disappearing a week ago. But it's not the first time Montana Barbaro has vanished.

She was abducted as a baby from a Deer Park shopping centre in 2004, sparking a frenzied two-day manhunt and national headlines before the baby was eventually found abandoned in a derelict home.

Montana had been snatched from her pram by Cheryl and Mark McEachran. The husband and wife kidnapping the newborn because they couldn't have any more children of their own.

Mother Anita Barbaro told Nine News she's been reliving her worst nightmare but she's "overjoyed" her daughter has returned.

"I (was) terrified. I'm scared. It's happened once. It's happened twice," she said.

Montana told Nine News she voluntarily left her home a week ago to stay with her older sister Sienna, who is estranged from the family.

"I just wanted to be with my sister," the 15-year-old said.

Referring to her mother's clearly distraught state, Montana said "It's heartbreaking (because) it's my mum."

While it's not the first time mother and daughter have been reunited, Montana says it will be the last, telling Nine News she won't leave home again.
