A plane has made an emergency landing at an airport near Brisbane after it encountered mechanical trouble.

The pilot was forced to land at Archerfield Airport this morning when the small aircraft suffered a landing gear fault.

The plane is currently sitting on the runway at the airport, 12 kms south of Brisbane.

A spokesperson for Airservices Australia said the aircraft made a "wheels up landing".

The plane is currently awaiting recovery from the runway.
