Parking fees and fines will be reinforced in Sydney after the council offered a brief reprieve during the coronavirus outbreak.

A letter from the City of Sydney council posted on a windscreen states drivers can be fined again from Monday to "make sure everyone has safe, fair and equal access to parking".

"Motorist must park legally and adhere to signposted parking restrictions and pay for parking in ticketed areas," the sign, seen by 9News, states.

Drivers who parked legally were not expected to pay for a ticket during the height of the pandemic.

Emergency and essential service workers will still be exempt from parking fees.
