NSW eases restrictions for border communities

Major changes to make life easier for residents in border towns.

Life is about to get a little easier for residents along the New South Wales-Victoria border as restrictions there are eased.

The changes were made following the relaxing of measures across regional Victoria, which came into force at midnight, and the reduced risk of COVID-19 transmission in the area.

Under the new rules, the NSW border region will be expanded to include some areas around Pleasant Hills, Lockhart, Benalla, Bright and Mount Beauty.

"Any person with an existing border region permit will be able to take advantage of these changes, which we hope will make day to day life a lot easier for border communities," NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.

Victorian residents will no longer be obliged to comply with the stay-at-home directions imposed in regional Victoria while in NSW or be restricted to entering NSW for a "permitted purpose".
