A Western Australian family is distraught after an 83-year-old grandfather vanished without a trace three days ago.

James Keen's phone is turned off, his bank accounts are untouched, and his disappearance unexplained.

"It's not like dad to just disappear," his daughter Dionne Sorgiovanni said.

"We just want out dad back, he's got to be out there somewhere. Somebody must have seen him."

Police don't even know where to start looking.

Mr Keen's family have driven from Lancelin, about 130km north of Perth, to Mandurah, just over 70km south of the capital, to search.

"He's just disappeared off the radar," son Paul Keen said.

James Keen left his Dianella home at about 9am on Tuesday, driving a silver Jaguar X-type with the registration 1GDQ 595.

He had recently suffered a stroke and had a heart condition, but was otherwise happy, and, his family said, a devoted grandfather.

The 83-year-old also left his medication at home and didn't pack anything.

His children say he was likely wearing a dark blue cap, a light blue t-shirt, and a dark blue jacket with white stripes down his arms, as the clothes were missing from his wardrobe.

"Please, please look out for him and help us," Paul Keen said.

"We're desperately seeking my dad."

Anybody with information is urged to contact police on 131 444.
