A Melbourne mum has delivered her own baby on her bathroom floor after going into labour at just 34 weeks.
Primary school teacher Sandra Rhodes was on her first day of maternity leave when she began to experience discomfort.
"I went and laid down on the bed to see if that would ease the pain," Ms Rhodes told 9News.
After calling her husband, who was at work, Ms Rhodes called 000 and was guided through the delivery by an operator.
"Had the phone balanced on my chest so that I had my hands free to support myself, and then ultimately to catch him (the baby) as he came out," she said.
Ms Rhodes gave birth to her son Eli James unassisted on the floor of her ensuite.
Minutes later, paramedics arrived at Ms Rhodes' door and Eli was then taken into special care.
It's not the first time Ms Rhodes experienced an early birth.
Eli's younger sister Mia was born at 34 weeks after her mum's water broke while she was at work.
"We reckon if there's a number four – someone might have to turn our school sick bay into a delivery room," Ms Rhodes joked.
