A manhunt for notorious crime family member Ricardo Barbaro is entering its second week as the fugitive's stepmother pleaded with him to come forward following the brutal murder of Melbourne mother Ellie Price.
The search for "Rick" Barbaro, 33, from the notorious Barbaro family has been expanded across NSW and Queensland, with police in the states echoing Victoria homicide detectives' call for information on the fugitive's whereabouts.
Ellie Price, 26, was found dead inside her Park Street apartment in South Melbourne about 2.15pm on Monday.
Police believe the mother-of-one had an on-off relationship with Barbaro.
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said on Friday the couple had a history of family violence and it was a line of inquiry being looked into.
The victim's car was found overnight on Thursday at Diggers Rest, northwest of Melbourne, but there was no sighting of Barbaro.
Police say Ms Price likely suffered a "violent" assault on April 28 or 29 and may have been dead for up to five days before being found.
In a statement sent to 9News last night, Ricardo Barbaro's stepmother, Anita, made an emotional plea for the 33-year-old to "come forward and do the right thing if you've done anything wrong".
Anita, who is married to Ricardo's father Joe, passed on her "deepest and most sincere condolences" to Ms Price's family.
"Firstly to Ellie and her family, words cannot describe the heartache we have for you all, especially for her little boy, we can't possibly imagine how he must now face life and continue living without his Mummy," she said in a statement [sic] to 9News.
"Ricky, we're extremely worried about you, we're in complete disbelief as we know you to be the man who is gentle and loving, you're a great father and brother to all, Ricky.
"Son, if you've done anything wrong please come forward and do the right thing for the sake of this poor young woman and family, and the incomprehensible pain they must be suffering, you need make contact with somebody."
Ricardo, who is the godfather of one of Anita's two daughters, is also the brother of Sydney underworld boss Pasquale Timothy Barbaro, who was gunned down in 2016.
His grandfather Peter Pasquale Barbaro was also gunned down in Brisbane in 1990, while his father's cousin Pasquale Barbaro was killed alongside underworld figure Jason Moran while watching a children's football training session in 2003.
Another Pasquale Barbaro, from Griffith, was sentenced to 30 years jail for importing what was then the world's biggest ecstasy haul into Melbourne.
Anyone who spots Ricardo Barbaro should not approach him but call triple zero or Crime Stoppers with any information.
Police believe Ricardo Barbaro could be travelling in his white 2009 Toyota HIace van, with registration 1OZ 8PC.
He is described as being 185cm tall with a solid build, black hair and olive complexion.
