A young man who escaped from the Alice Springs courthouse after jumping from the dock and running out the front door has been rearrested and charged.

A young man who escaped from the Alice Springs courthouse after jumping from the dock and running out the front door has been rearrested and charged.

Jonah Mitchell, 18, ran off in the direction of the town's dry Todd River on Friday morning with security in pursuit. He was last seen on the corner of Wills and Sturt Terrace.

When he fled, Mitchell had been applying to be released on bail in relation to assault, domestic violence and drug charges.

Northern Territory Police on Sunday afternoon said Mitchell had been found hiding in a house in the Alice Springs suburb of Ciccone.

"Police transported the man to the Alice Springs watch house where he was charged with one count of escape custody," the force said in a statement.
