A British man who has been providing video updates on social media of his time on the quarantined Diamond Princess has urged concerned loved ones of passengers to get in touch so he can make sure they're alright.

David Abel has posted regularly about conditions on the cruise ship since passengers onboard were diagnosed with the coronavirus.

His updates have been drawing international attention, and Mr Abel thanked everybody for their comments and well-wishes.

In his latest video, posted this morning, he noted that many people getting in touch with him had expressed concerns about elderly or lonesome loved ones on board the ship, which is currently off the coast near Yokohama, Japan.

"I'm asking you to please let me know their names and their cabin numbers," he said.

He promised he and a network of friends on board would try to get in touch with them, in order to let their families know they were well, and to keep them company.

"It's not right that they should feel isolated and alone," he said.

Mr Abel claimed passengers had not been informed that 10 people on board the ship had been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

"Does this mean the quarantine will be extended for a further period? We don't know," he said.

Thus far, Japanese health officials have confirmed the infection of 10 passengers with the virus, including two Australians.
