A man was allegedly kidnapped from a Gold Coast hotel room, driven away in his own car and dumped in a Brisbane suburb.

Police said a 48-year-old Miami man had been at the hotel for less than a few hours last night when several men approached him on the balcony.

The group is accused of storming the man's room, beating him with a hammer, stealing his wallet and draining his bank accounts.

He was allegedly then forced into a black BMW — his own, police said — and driven to Brisbane.

The alleged kidnappers dumped the man on Torwood Street in Auchenflower at about 12.30am.

Injured and shaken, he managed to walk up the road to Haig Street, before collapsing in a front yard.

The owners returned home to find the 48-year-old there, and contacted police.

"The victim is still providing police with a version of events, he came back to the Gold Coast this morning," Chief Superintendent Mark Wheeler said.

It is unclear if the man knew his alleged assailants.

So far, one Eagleby man has been arrested.

"We are looking for other people who we believe are involved and we are confident we will find those people," Superintendent Wheeler said.
