A man has been charged with domestic violence offences after allegedly hitting a 48-year-old woman in a car stopped on the side of a road in Sydney's inner west.

Mehmet Demir, 41, from Bardwell Park,  allegedly mounted his Range Rover on the kerb on the Princes Highway at Tempe, and hit the woman at 12.30am on Friday.

It's alleged that when she tried to flee, he hit her again and forced her back into the car and drove away, heading south.

Police were alerted, and arrested Mr Demir at 8pm yesterday in Bardwell Park.

He was taken to Kogarah Police Station, and charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV).

He appeared at Sutherland Local Court today.
