A man has been accused of deliberately driving into a cow and slitting its throat in the NSW Hunter region.
The 37-year-old in December became aware of young cows, known as heifers, grazing on his Brookfield property. The heifers were not his, NSW Police said in a statement today.
The man allegedly got into his vehicle and drove into one of the cows, breaking its leg, before slitting its throat and releasing his dogs onto the injured animal.
When the cow's owner found the animal, he was forced to euthanise it and reported the incident to police.
The 37-year-old man was on Thursday charged with several animal cruelty offences including torture, beating and seriously injuring an animal.
He was given conditional bail to appear at Dungog Local Court on March 11.
