Police were allegedly spat on after two men were arrested over a brawl in central Sydney overnight.

About 9.30pm yesterday, officers saw two men involved in a fight on Flinders Street in Surry Hills.

Police using pepper spray arrested one man, aged 30, while the second, a 27-year-old, fled the scene.

Police pursued him and he allegedly resisted arrest as they tried to restrain him, causing one officer to fall over.

While being escorted to a police vehicle he allegedly spat on a police constable. When he arrived at Surry Hills police station he allegedly spat on the same officer again.

The 30-year-old man, from Ultimo, was charged with affray and not comply with COVID 19 health regulations.

The younger man, from Kingsgrove, was charged with affray, resisting arrest, two counts of assault and and not complying with COVID 19 regulations.

Both were refused bail and are scheduled to appear in court later today.
