Tasmanians are being urged to get out and explore their island home as part of a new Tourism Tasmania campaign.
According to Tourism Tasmania, “Make Yourself At Home will run over 12 months, reminding people of what makes this place special, our nature, our great food and wine, and the uniqueness of a Tasmanian experience. It will encourage bookings and
visits to local businesses and destinations, showcasing what’s open and ready for Tasmanians to discover in their own backyard.”
The campaign will advertise in print and on television TV, radio and digital sites to boost awareness of Tasmanian attractions and to encourage travel and holidays within the state.
“The Make Yourself at Home campaign encourages Tasmanians to enjoy what has made our state the envy of the nation, including our high quality, unique products and experiences,” said Premier Peter Gutwein.
“Now is the time to embrace our state’s offerings and support our local tourism and hospitality experiences, particularly following a tough few months for many Tasmanian businesses.”
A recent survey commissioned by Tourism Tasmania found that 68 per cent of Tasmanians are planning to take a holiday in Tasmania in the next 12 months with a majority preferring to holiday at home than take an interstate or international trip.
The Premier said that the visitor economy is a ‘key pillar in Tasmania’, with the latest data showing prior to COVID-19 that in 2018-19, tourism directly and indirectly supported around 43,200 local jobs.
“In Tasmania we are so fortunate to have internationally renowned produce, experiences and destinations to explore,” he said. “There has never been a better time to book a holiday in Tasmania and make yourself at home.”
The campaign was developed by Tourism Tasmania to encourage Tasmanians to holiday at home safely, and support the local tourism industry, while traditional interstate and international markets are not available. The campaign has been developed in partnership with the four regional tourism organisations, the Department of State Growth, the Tasmanian Hospitality Association and the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania.
The campaign includes a logo, images, posters and a campaign video (below). The site includes suggestions for activities as well as links to accommodation operators, food and drink options, and providers of unique experiences.
