NSW Police investigating alleged money laundering and fraud crimes uncovered a criminal syndicate operating in the illegal trade of native and exotic fauna across Australia, Canada, Asia and the US.

Two men have been arrested after NSW Police seized exotic and protected Australian animals in raids on homes linked to alleged wildlife trafficking.

Six search warrants were conducted by police today at homes in East Hills, Petersham, Greystanes, Riverstone, Whalan and Albion Park Rail in Sydney.

Australian magpies, a Death Adder snake, a Red-bellied Black Snake, a python, lizards and turtles were all seized during the raids along with mobile phones, computers and electronic storage devices.

A 55-year-old man was also arrested at the East Hills home and taken to Bankstown Police Station, while another 27-year-old man was taken to Granville Police Station from the Greystanes property.

Two other men were charged earlier in the investigation by police with trafficking protected animals.

An investigation into the alleged trafficking crimes continues and more charges are expected to be laid.
