A Caspian Airlines passenger plane has landed in the middle of a residential street in Mahshahr, a city in south-western Iran.

All 130 passengers on board the aircraft are reported to be safe, according to the Teran Times.

"Fortunately, all passengers on Tehran-Mahshahr flight are safe," said the spokesman for Iran's Civil Aviation Organisation, Reza Jafarzadeh.

The plane is reported to have overshot the runway upon landing, going off course and eventually coming to a stop on a city street.

Witnesses filmed the dramatic event, capturing footage of the commercial aircraft on a highway as well as passengers calmly disembarking after the accident.

Reza Jafarzadeh, Iran's Civil Aviation Organisation spokesman, said that the cause of the incident is under investigation.
