The Queensland Children's Hospital doesn't just rely on doctors and nurses, but an army of volunteers as well.

They are the people who give up their time to support families in life's toughest times.

Husband and wife duo Ian and Bev MacQueen are just two of the dedicated volunteers providing support for almost 20 years.

"We greet the parents as they come in, if they need help and many of them do," Ian said.

"It's just great being able to help other people. We get more out of it actually than we give."

The volunteers help implement important programs like Kidzone, which is funded by the Children's Hospital Foundation.

Olivia Jary from the Children's Hospital Foundation said volunteers played a crucial role.

"Our volunteers are really the heart of everything the Children's Hospital Foundation does, last year 450 volunteers dedicated nearly 30,000 hours, " she said.

The 9Telethon will be raising money to support the Children's Hospital Foundation and its volunteers, but tomorrow's event is set to look a little different from other years.

There won't be a studio audience and entertainment, Jimmy Barnes and Jessica Mauboy, will be broadcast live from the Sunsuper Contact Centre from 3pm on Channel9.

You can donate on the day by calling 1800 909 900 or through the 9Telethon website.
