Heat returns following wet week, high fire danger for two states

Here’s the weather across Australia on Friday October 2, 2020, including sun and warm temperatures for several sates apart from showers and storms for southeast Queensland and northeast NSW.

Sun is forecast to return to several states following a week of wild weather, rain and damaging storms around the country throughout the week.

A trough is causing showers and storms over southeast Queensland and northeast NSW following a rainy day yesterday.

Cool westerly winds in the wake of a front are triggering showers in western Tasmania.

A trough over the Northern Territory and northern Western Australia is generating thundery showers.

Dry and clear elsewhere under a broad high.

Conditions will be mostly sunny across the state today, mild-to-warm in the east and very warm in the west.

The high will remain near northern New Zealand, maintaining a ridge along the east coast. The trough is expected to weaken considerably and dissipate during the day, broadening the east coast ridge across the state.

A slight to medium chance of showers about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere.

Winds light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, though fresh at times near the northeast tropical coast.

Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average in the west tending near average along the east coasts.

Brisbane is in for a sunny day with light winds becoming stronger in the middle of the day then becoming light in the evening.

Temperatures in the city could reach a top of 29C.

Fire Danger - Very High for Peninsula, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling Downs and Granite belt districts.


Dry and mostly sunny. Daytime temperatures above average, most notably across the southwest and southeast.

North to northeast winds, freshening along the coast in the afternoon.

Surf conditions along the northern half of the coast in the morning may be more powerful than they appear and are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing and swimming.

Sydney restaurant.

Sydney will be sunny after a week of erratic weather. Areas of fog early this morning, mainly in the west and a top of 25C in the city.

Similar conditions are expected in Canberra with sun and light winds however temperatures will be much cooler with a minimum of 3C and a maximum of 24C.


Isolated morning fog in the northeast. A dry, warm and sunny day with moderate to fresh northeast to northwesterly winds, strong and gusty at times across the south and about the alpine peaks.

Melbourne will be sunny and hot today with temperatures expected to peak at 28C.

Fire Danger will be low to moderate in Victoria today.


Showers about the west and far south, clearing from the far south late afternoon but extending to the central north. Possible thunderstorms about the northwest later in the day.

Mainly fine elsewhere. Strong and gusty northwesterly winds.

South Australia

Dry apart from possible afternoon and evening thunderstorms in the northwest, but with little or no rainfall.

A warm day in the south grading to hot in the west and far north.

Moderate to fresh and gusty north to northwesterly winds, strong at times during the day in the west with possible areas of raised dust, then shifting milder southwest to southerly over the Nullarbor Plain in the evening.

Adelaide will be sunny with a maximum of 30C today.

Western Australia

Showers southwest of a line Lancelin to Hopetoun extending to remaining parts southwest of Denham to Israelite Bay during the day.

A chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms and small hail over the southern South West and western South Coastal districts. Showers and thunderstorms over the Kimberley and the north and east Interior.

Perth will be mostly cloudy with a very high chance of showers, becoming less likely this afternoon.

Temperatures will be cool in the city ranging between a minimum of 12C and maximum 18C.

Northern Territory

A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms near the Western Australian border, and over the western Daly, southeast Arnhem and eastern Carpentaria Districts.

Mostly sunny elsewhere. Very hot across parts of the Gregory and southern Daly Districts.

Light to moderate easterly winds, tending northeast to northerly south of Tennant Creek. Winds fresh and gusty south of Elliott during the day, reaching fresh to strong in the Lasseter District with areas of raised dust.

A sunny day in Darwin with a top of 35C and the chance of a thunderstorm about the Cox Peninsula later tonight.

Fire Danger - High to Very high.
