Every adult in America will be eligible to be vaccinated by May 1 under an ambitious plan by President Joe Biden to open up the country.
Delivering a primetime address a year on from the beginning of the pandemic, Mr Biden said the ramping up of vaccinations should see family and friends able to gather for Independence Day on July 4.
The May deadline was "months ahead of schedule".
"It's truly a national effort, just like we saw during World War II. Now because all the work we've done, we'll have enough vaccine supply for all adults in America by the end of May," Mr Biden said from the White House.
"That's months ahead of schedule. And we're mobilising thousands of vaccinators to put the vaccine in one's arm."
Mr Biden opened his address with a shot fired at his predecessor Donald Trump, saying when the pandemic first hit the science was ignored.
"A year ago we were hit with a virus that was met with silence and denials," Mr Biden said.
"Grandparents haven't seen their children or grandchildren.
"Parents haven't seen their kids. Kids haven't seen their friends.
"The things we used to do that always filled us with joy have become things we couldn't do, and broke our hearts.
"Too often we've turned against one another."
If the program rolls out according to plan, the US will be vaccinating as many as two million people a day at its height.
"If we do this together, by July 4 there's a good chance you, your families and friends will be able to get together in your backyard or in your neighbourhood and have a cook-out on a barbecue and celebrate Independence Day," Mr Biden said.
"After this long, hard year, that will make this Independence Day something truly special."
Mr Biden told the country it's "never, ever a good bet to bet against the American people".
"America is coming back," he said.
"The development, manufacture and distribution of vaccines in record time is a true miracle of science.
"It's one of the most extraordinary achievements any country has ever accomplished."
