Police are investigating potential criminal damage charges after a car was impaled with a crossbow bolt south of Darwin.

Police are investigating potential criminal damage charges after a car was impaled with a crossbow bolt south of Darwin.

The Toyota Prado was travelling through Berry Springs towards Cox Peninsula Road on Monday before a sound thought to be a rock hitting the car was heard.

Upon returning to their caravan park, the family inside the vehicle discovered a crossbow bolt embedded in the side of the car.

Local police have since conducted a small number of door knocks in the Berry Springs area, with the call going out for anyone with information to contact police.

"(Police) would like to hear from anyone with information or dash-cam footage of the incident to contact 131 444."
